The Cosmopewlitan: A tale of two Coalitions.
Ever since the sensational battle in Uemon, the question that has been resounding throughout NC chat channels in Geminate is “Where the hell were the Goons?”. This question refers to the lack of any presence from the Deklein Coalition in the failed fight to save 12 NC titans. In my view, the Deklein Coalition was just too far away to intervene in the massive low-sec welp. However, several colossal mistakes were made and people naturally start looking for scapegoats. No matter how rich you are in EVE online, losing 70bil in assets (and what’s worse, helplessly watching half of it being ‘looted’ by the party that destroyed the other half) isn’t day to day business. Sure ships are made to be lost, especially those which you can’t even dock, since you don’t undock what you don’t want to lose. This applies to supercapitals 23/7. The amount of negative feedback alliances and coalitions sometimes get after loosing such ships is completely understandable as it is only natural to try to find escape goats to take out one’s frustrations on. It’s part of being on the loosing side.
One of the most repeated “tantrums” after the disastrous last week from NC pilots involved the Deklein Coaliton “not being there” to either fight or just be there to crash the node.

This incident was highlighted by one of our contributing writers whose fame is almost as polarizing as the whole “DC is part of the NC” debate. While some of the arguments in his post are completely flawed (TCF housed DekCo, not MH) it does bring up the classic “gate-camp” question: If enough time has passed and we have no-one to shoot, how long until the camp starts shooting each other?
While this question was simmering in the background, we were approached by the TEST CEO with a huge story: TEST and PL were now blue. Montolio already had a past history with us of giving good and solid intel and backing his facts. Later that day, my editor was screaming at me for supposedly letting “slip” two NSFW tabs I was “browsing” while checking the facts. Amused about the possibility of PL joining the ranks of the BFF mentality (they recently captured some stations, which goes against the PL usual “way to be”) I couldn’t shake off the fact of it being just too good to be true. Montolio is the kind of guy who while good spirited, always showed the need for you to give him something to get something, intel wise. Many of his associates would agree with us on that. So it was suspicious for us to be getting generous amounts of intel from him. In the end, it turned out to be a troll.
Yet – and this is where the story goes above and beyond ‘lol, EN24 got trolled’ – sometimes even a troll manages to trigger a reaction from other parties. As if sheer morbid curiosity was the real driver, the troll performed by TEST alliance on their NC counterparts and of course on EN24 truly shelled out a few interesting results. It provoked a strong anti-DekCo reaction among mainline NC leaders, resulting in an ongoing storm of drama in coalition command channels.
This added to mounting pressure on Montolio from some traditional Northern Coalition alliances as TEST alliance and company continue to house what they see as “NC undesirables”. For example the recent addition of C0NVICTED and RUS to TEST’s roster of Fountain guests, two groups which not only ended their relationship in bad terms with the Northern Coalition but made a public and unrepentant effort to damage as much as they could as they were leaving. The Deklein Coalition could also be seen as a beacon for corporations which might feel “culturally different” to the NC alliances they are currently housed in. This is demonstrated by the addition of breakaway alliances such as the Gentlemen’s Agreement and Fatal Ascension. All the aforementioned groups are seen differently by several NC members with views ranging from “should be expelled from the right to live in the north” to the case of GENTS “as a serious loss of good players.”
So streetwise speaking, what’s the dealio with the Deklein Coalition right now?
After being successfully lead by The Mittani, the self proclaimed mastermind behind the Deklein Coalition victory, (NB: there also existed several other factors) for DekCo there is a clear need for a cool down period after a tiresome campaign shown by a good chunk of either Goonswarm Federation or other DC pilots simply not logging in for a good month or two. While the last campaign in Delve/Fountain was a swift one, it was a tough grinding campaign nevertheless which in the view of any competent commander would need a considerable cooling period. Everyone has limits and the mistake of not recognizing your own limits could lead to an overstretching by pushing into another campaign too soon (Kalevala Expanse assault anyone?).
I think is it fair to say that one of the finest persistent qualities of the whole Northern Coalition, in which I include the whole Deklein Coalition as an unusual member, is in the communication area. This is not just true for battlecoms which are mostly unified and easy to get on as long as you are in any flavor of blue for the NC, but also in keeping the same mindset as a Coalition even when cultural differences arises. This is when NC qualities share similarities with quartz crystals: they are only useful under constant pressure.
Lately part of the leadership of NC is mad at the DC, something not very known by NC grunts. While Vuk and Imperian and other big shots couldn’t care less (they know rebuilding an empire is something boring and unappealing) this does not apply to the lower NC high command/FCs, who are traditionally used to flying under one banner and sharing defense responsibilities as if it were their own mothers at stake. CTA’s are big part of the Northern Coalition, especially when one takes into account the NC’s defensive nature.
And then comes the whole retribution issue. During the assault on IT coalition dominions there was plenty of Northern Coalition help, albeit often in the form of “am-tired-of-playing-Heroes-of-Newerth” sort of participation. However it was participation nevertheless and like the mafia, in nullsec favours are expected to be repaid and many predicted this retribution during the whole Uemon ordeal despite the Deklein Coalition being about 13 cynojumps away from the action. Don’t get me wrong from me excusing the DC, my CEO lost a titan in Uemon and I resent it, but in all fairness it was a bit unrealistic to expect help.
Even so, to add to the perceived insult there were some leaks from generalstab, the NC high command channel, of fellow Goons mocking the NC in the whole ordeal.
The many emo’s raged, and a few FCs were booted from the General Stab channel, but the trolling has continued to this day with many members failing to see how bored some Goonswarm members might be.
[16:33:00] (Bring Stabity): welp, i got in deep shit for leaking faggots sperging in generalstab on kugu
[16:33:31] Jogyn: rumour has it you posted it in public channels
[16:33:39] Jogyn: which one might say is not the smartest JAMES BOND move one can pull
[16:35:24] (Bring Stabity): so I either have to write an apology letter to vuk lau or tell mittani to get fucked and ragequit
[16:42:43] Jogyn: apology?
[16:42:44] Jogyn: really?
Will a reset be expected? Probably not for the time being, but the animosity between NC and DC members keeps on growing. A grunt can only expect to be oblivious to these incidents, mildy amused by the constant trolling and expect the issues to be resolved just in time for Bob 3.0
To the rest of null-sec I’d say “enjoy these over the top gifs!”
