Many of you would recognize the ‘legacy’ left in the Clear Skies videos, while I was personally never impressed by said videos, the effort was laudable and left an enduring mark in many of New Eden players, amidst the success they decided to start a Podcast which also became also immensely popular. Time passed and everything was fine until a couple weeks ago. An insider, speaking under the condition of anonymity gave us the scoop:
Cloudy Skies: Rainy Season for the Lost In Eve corporation.
A week or 2 ago Jade, our CEO and the founder of Z3R0 Return Mining had to step down from his position and duo to important things in his real life he was no longer able to play Eve Online. This came as a shock but good leadership was able to maintain the drawback and we were able to continue as normal. Z3R0 Return Mining consists of two Wormholes, a C2 and an alliance shared C4, most of the corporation members were active in the C2, for some it was their home and for some it was to be used as a stepping stone to the C4. In the C2 we were being led by a really good and solid leader who had a clear vision and he was able to set up a really good infrastructure for us to use and live in.
When Jade had to quit we were under the impression that the person who was leading the C2 would take up the mantle and continue and because of the lack of members in the C4 it was decided to abandon the C4 for now. The C4 was controlled by an alliance rather then our Corporation alone so if the desire would return to return to the C4 it would have been possible but at the time this wasn’t a viable option.
It was believed that the C2 leader would be granted CEO position and run things, however, because all of this was so unexpected he didn’t have his skills trained up high enough yet to handle the position so it was decided to hand over CEO position to Jade’s business partner, who isn’t even active in any of the wormholes and is currently only active in Nul Sec, fighting the big fleet fights and he’s rarely seen on mumble or on the forums. So to our knowledge he was supposed to be a temporary CEO until the C2 leader was skilled up high enough.
In a conversation that followed a few days ago between Jade’s business partner and the C2 leader it became clear that the two didn’t see eye to eye and both had different idea’s for the future of the corporation. However, keeping in mind that Jade’s business partner isn’t even in any of the wormholes and to our knowledge doesn’t even really care about what happens inside them. To most of the members the guy who led the C2 was our leader since he put in the time and effort to arrange infrastructure, the paperwork and the payouts and he had earned the respect and shown us he could handle the responsibility. The man worked his ass off and hardly ever had any time to participate in any of the operations but he was very dedicated to the corporation. He was, in our opinion the most logical choice and to our knowledge this was agreed upon by Jade. I must stress however that we are not sure on what was actually said in those meetings because no one openly revealed what was said but these were the general consensus.
After an argument on comms between the two men the C2 leader decided he no longer had a place in Z3R0 Return Mining, what was exactly said is unclear at this point but we assume the two men clashed in such a way that it became clear to the C2 leader that he had to step down from his position and leave. With him some other members decided to leave as well and all the people with any sort of responsibility had effectively resigned.
The weird part of all of this is that within hours several members with leadership roles and access to the posses had moved most of their assets our of the wormhole and resigned their roles and were on the 24 hour cool down period prior to leaving the corporation. A single forum post was made and that was generally the only heads up on the current situation and we, as members were told that from now on Jade’s Business partner was the new CEO and if we had any issues or questions we should take it up with him. Within a 24 hour timeframe several key members stepped down, resigned their roles and if things weren’t bad enough, before most members could inform themselves assets from several members were stolen, assets that were spread over several POS towers and Ship Hangars and previously save, however, in the chaos POS passwords were removed and hangar access was messed with.
The response of most of the members was to take their remaining assets out of the wormhole incase the whole thing would collapse and members would be locked out of the towers and left floating in space without any means of getting out of the wormhole. The members were unaware of Jade’s business partner’s intentions and to be on the safe side it was best to move our assets out, also, we had a Corporation thief who could potentially still be present in the wormhole, so in response a lot of members thought it was a good idea to get their assets to safety.
With key members within the Corporation already gone and assets stolen and with limited information on the future of the corporation members acted on what they thought was the best course of action at the time and good teamwork made it possible for a lot of members to get their assets out safely. A neutral save POS was set up for the members who were on break or not online at the time so that their assets could be taken out save as well. Most members kept their cool and didn’t panic but felt it was necessary to secure their assets. Most members are still unsure of what actually happened and what the future of the corporation will be and the current CEO has not been forth coming with any sort of information and he has not been online for awhile despite his promises of getting in touch with us.
It seems Z3R0 Return Mining was highjacked by Jade’s business partner to secure what ever assets were left, however, it seems to be a complete mystery to the members how he will be able to salvage what’s left of the corporation since he’s not even active in any of the holes and to our knowledge no one is willing to help him get into them so assets that are left will remain there. It seems obvious that this has not been thought out and if this were a deliberate attempt to take control it wasn’t organized very effectively, however, we are still left to speculate on what the actual intentions are.
As for the thief, we are unable to trace who it could be but the thief wasn’t very smart since he only took a bunch of Hurricane battlecruisers ship wise. The assets he stole from the Hangars however should make him a pretty decent amount of isk. We assume he stole the Hurricane’s because they contained the most valuable fittings and were an easy target to take out of the wormhole, we can only assume but it might also be possible that this was the only battlecruiser he could fly, that should make the list of suspects a lot shorter, however, the API information is not available to us since it was lost when the C2 leader resigned his position and even then, the API information provided by members when they joined the corporation might not even work anymore because members can simply change their API Key.
What is most hurtful here is that the Corporation was build by Jade and he put his heart and soul into it. Jade is a well respected member in the community has put a lot of time into the game and bringing his vision to life. Jade’s stories on the podcast brought a lot of us to the Corporation. Jade’s dedication and energy inspired us all and he remains a very respected and loved person among us and a lot of us feel that the corporation does not deserve this.
What ever the future will be for Z3r0 Return Mining and despite of what the new CEO is going to do a lot of us feel that too much damage has already been done and with the loss of the leader in the C2 many feel that no one will be able to pick up where he left off and many have doubts about the leadership ability of the new CEO, who is not even active in the wormhole. Many of the members have never talked to the guy and with the lack of information many see that as a sign of an inability to lead and it shows the lack of responsibility to the corporation and it’s members.
Official Statement
On the Lost in Eve website, an official farewell statement had been posted on September 20th, we reproduce it in the spoiler below:
Lost in Eve started as a very humble project intended for the ‘dozen or so’ listeners that might have been amazed as much as I was when I first started the game. It turned into something far bigger and meaningful than I could imagine. I got a fantastic co-host and real life friend in Jayne and together we were able to push out nearly FIVE seasons of Lost in Eve and Lost in Conversation respectively. I don’t care what anyone says but making a podcast for free for a community that increasingly wants more content as frequently as possible is not easy. Add that, a job, a 9 hour time difference between hosts, wives, kids, and well real life and it’s a constant jigsaw puzzle to work out. There’s no blame here but amongst the podcasters we often understand the challenges involved in putting together a quality podcast and when a podcast goes down, we understand that well.
All this to say that Lost in Eve has been a HUGE undertaking and I’m really proud of what it’s become. I want to thank ALL of our guests over the seasons that have taken part in the show! Also Diana Dial from EVETimeCode.com who has been somewhat of an entrepreneural inspiration to me. Last but not least in Jayne who is one of the most positive and creative people I know! We have thoroughly enjoyed the ride!
A little background for you…approximately two years ago, I (Jade) got a fever that kept me out of business for FIVE weeks straight! It was a pretty defining moment in my life. No one knew what it was and all sorts of tests (some pretty painful) were done but no one could figure it out. Now, two years later, on Saturday, September 10th, I got a stark reminder of what that felt like physically and mentally as I had another high and stubborn fever return. To be laying utterly helpless with frequent hot and cold spells for days is not fun and quite frankly completely draining on one’s body. I have been using this time to reflect and I have come to the conclusion that I need to make a significant change in my life.
EVE has become MUCH MORE important to me than it ever should and after some self evaluation lately I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m pretty much addicted to the game. I think and obsess about it all the time and am planning stuff in it all the time. I’ve been staying home (to “work”) EVERY day now to “log on” (read play the entire day) during my work hours and nothing has been enough for me. I need to play it more. This has obviously been creating a growing disconnect between myself and my wife too obviously to the point where I have the computer open every night too. So morning, day, and night…and still it’s not enough.
All things must come to an end. With a personal surgery looming and a recovery to begin, I personally have decided to quit the Lost in Eve project AND have already unsubbed my accounts in EVE as well. Making a decision like this has not been taken lightly but it also wasn’t as hard as I envisioned due to seeing things slip away for some weeks now. Making the final decision has been liberating and I believe fully is right for me and my family’s well-being.
I do want to apologize to Jayne as I know he wanted to do one last episode to end things on a high so-to-speak. I didn’t. No long drawn out goodbyes. Just a thank you and good luck. Lame as it might be, it is what it is. In the beginning this podcast was intended to be transparent and humble and I want to end it in the same manner…..no bells and whistles. Just a humble goodbye and good luck.
Fly deadly people!
–Jade & Jayne out
For the ones waiting on the TL;DR, its simple: The leader leave and the whole thing crumbles, the sun goes up, the sun goes down. The tides go in, the tides go out. Never a miscommunication, right?
