The hottest items in any game are the ones that are the rarest. In Eve, the rarest ships are those given out to the victors of the Alliance Tournaments.
Amarr Succession Tournament saw the introduction of four Apocalypse Imperial Issues. The first died only a few months later in a fight. The second died in Alliance Tournament III, in a fight between IAC and CoW. The third died in a fleet fight between Stain and Curse Alliances. The final ship was instrumental in the heist that made the Guiding Hand Social Club famous. A fifth existed briefly as a promotion for the BIG lotto. After it was delivered, the pilot donated it to the Amarr Empire, and CCP removed it from the game.
Alliance Tournament III brought us the Raven State Issue and the Tempest Tribal Issue. These ships are estimated to be worth around 300 billion isk each. Four of each ship existed. None are know to have died.
Alliance Tournament VII saw the return of rare ships as prizes. BPCs totalling 50 runs of Mimir and 50 runs of Freki were given out to the first and second place teams respectively. These ships also heralded the projectile weapon fix. I have been unable to find record of any of these ships dying. A Mimir was killed on SISI, but that seems to be the closest any have come to dying. Another was flown in combat prior to being awarded in a Ships of Eve contest. Garmon flew one for a while with his alt (video here). Some of the Freki’s were flown the next year in the Alliance Tournament. If you want to hear the groans and share in the horror of the loss, here’s the video:
Alliance Tournament VIII saw CCP trying to promote the much nerfed Gallente race by releasing 50 Adrestia ships to Pandemic Legion and 50 Utu ships to Hydra. The first Adrestia to die was killed by a BDEAL low sec roam led by Pinky Denmark (killmail). Pinky, one of the most down to earth players I’ve come across in Eve (and the reason my corp was in BDEAL), had this say:
Props to the great people of Eve bringing out expensive ships.
Alliance Tournament IX saw the introduction of BPCs for 50 runs of Vangels and 50 runs of Malices, going to Hydra and and Outbreak respectively in the controversial final battle.
This was the world of the rarest ships in Eve. A world where few are flown and very, very few die.
Recently, a rare ship met its fate. Garmon, well known for his PVP videos, was the proud owner of an Adrestia. It died at the hands of Darius III and a small gang of Br1ck Squad. Garmon’s pod also died in the fight. We contacted Garmon about this loss and he was happy to fill us in on the intriguing history of this specific ship and how it came to its final end.
This ship has a bit of history. In August of 2011, not too long after AT IX, Tyrrax Thork approached Duncan Tanner regarding setting up a HON match between PL and Hydra. The winner would take home a Vangel and Adrestia. I was a little cautious at first but I agreed to give a Vangel for it as the whole thing sounded exciting.
After around 2 weeks of indecision about whether this would even happen, both sides gave their respective ships to Chribba. Tyrrax got a lot of publicity going for it and managed to get the official HoN cast crew to stream it live with commentary.
Heroes of Newerth
When the match was actually played out, it turned out that both PL and Hydra/Genos had two players in their team that were out of alliance. The Genos team won, but that is mostly due to the fact that apparently, the ringers we used was HON professional players, so my loss is sweet in that regard.
I was not involved with the team, I paid them 15b for the ship, so cheap because I had risked a vangel.
The Adrestia is a unique ship, every one I’ve faught over the past few days, apart from Brick Squad, knows how frustrating it is to fight this ship, I had nearly 20 kills in the 24 hours leading to its death, and quite a few more a few months before
It goes 6.6km/s, has a scram range of 40km, it’s essentially a risk free ship to fly as you can position tank effortlessly, the only risk involved with flying it is dependant on being an idiot or not having fast reflexes
I’m usually pretty good at not being a complete idiot, I was trying to get out of 0.0 so I can go AFK in empire, I warped to a ping spot on the Oijanen gate, and I was comfortable that I could warp to the gate and burn through the bubbles and jump out, a Rapier alone is not enough to stop me from being able to get to the gate given their lock time
But between me landing on the pingspot, and coming out of warp on the gate, their stiletto and Taranis was able to reposition them selves to 20-30km from my warp out, I was only able to burn 20km towards the gate, from the original 30km, while webbed by the Rapier, with 3 tier 3 BC’s applying full damage, I was sure to die, for some reason I decided to eject when I was entering armor – I’m honestly not sure why at the time, a part of me wanted them to have the ship for executing the tackle so well, there’s moments in eve where you just have to throw your hat to the enemy for outplaying you, even if you’re being bad
So there you have it, combination of me being terrible and brick squad tacklers being exceptional, I applaud them and I have no hard feelings towards them
A lot of people has been offering their condolences for my loss, but it’s part of eve, and it doesn’t effect me much compared to the average player, probably because I am used to dying so much, saying that, I’m hoping to trade 3 Vangels with PL for 3 Adrestias.
And so ends one of the rarest ships in the game. A tip of the hat to Garmon for not only undocking with the ship, but taking it to null for combat. To Darius III and Br1cksquad: stellar kill.

Update
Adrestia Down, Garmon loses 33 Bn isk Cruiser to Brick Squad.
Brick Squad was camping the Oijanen gate in BWF when an odd queston came over comms “What the fuck is an Adrestia?”Everyone assumed it was a troll, but then Garmon appeared at a loadup, in said Adrestia. The ‘Cepters burned out to tackle, just as Garmon did the unthinkable: He warped himself into the bubble, 17 Km from jump range.
He started burning to the gate as Brick got disable and quadruple webs. Everyone overloaded, and just as his armor was stripped, unbelievably- Garmon ejected. The sound of 10 guys screaming PULL DAMAGE was replaced by screams of horror as the guns were already cycling and the 30 Bn ISK cruiser popped. He was 1100 Meters from jump range when he ejected.
His pod lasted mere seconds before he was turned into a frozen corpse leaving a 2.3 Bn Isk lossmail bearing evidence of his full Snake set he had at the time of his death.
Mad props and +1 to Garmon for actually flying the ship and attempting a ballsy maneuver to escape to the relative safety of Low-sec. The first comment on Eve-Kill was in Garmons name, it said simply: “Oops”
