Yesterday, BoodaBooda was chatting it up in local about the recent dreddit downfall thing (that we covered here).  He was linking a post he made on reddit (here) where he claims he dissolved Dreddit.  The angry $1000 guy was not exactly convinced by BoodaBooda’s email that he had destroyed Dreddit and asked for video confirmation that he had emptied Dreddit and destroyed it from the inside.  So, it seems BoodaBooda (already smelling the trap everyone assumed this to be) posted a video.  He made a big show of gutting the corp.  I can only imagine the glee of the angry $1000 guy as he watched this.  Here is the video:

The dead giveaway for people familiar enough with Eve is the portrait in the upper left of the screen about 2 minutes in, when he’s showing himself destroying ships.

As had been suspected, from the post video wall of text on the dreddit downfall website, the guy was planning to scam whoever killed dreddit in the end.  They mirrored the wall of text here.  The text is quoted below:

1) Attempt to infiltrate Dreddit.

2) Get rejected during the infiltration attempt. Get angry after wasting your only other 3 month old reddit account on the attempt.

3) Get into long arbitrary troll sessions for the sake of creating emotional tension. Laugh at the stereotypical responses. Get the instinctual feeling like there is something to exploit here.

4) Provoke everyone into saying retarded shit like how it’s near impossible to inflict butthurt on Dreddit. Get them to post long winded diatribes about how lame you are. Imagine in your head the small shame they’ll feel when they have to eat their words. Know, from being an insider, that these people are garbage. Their eventual butthurt will fill you with joy.

5) Think about offering a bounty on Dreddit to create drama, but realize that the terms and conditions of Shattered Crystal don’t allow ETC time code refunds once they’re actually sent to me.

6) Read the Shattered Crystal return policy. Realize that if I am never in posession of the ETC codes, I do not violate the return policy asking for my refund within 30 days. Confirm with CCP GM that offering the bounty is within the EULA.

7) Create a contact at Shattered Crystal, send him the $1000 but tell him to hold onto the time codes so he can be a neutral third party. Never have the codes in your posession, make sure that point is explicit.

Use a freebie annual domain registration from dreamhost to bait the internet with dredditdownfall.com and wait for opportunity. Spend 10 minutes actually creating the site.

9) BONUS, BoodaBooda — a Director for dreddit contacts you to defect, but he is skeptical. You play him using the principles of incentive/leverage. People will bet in vegas, even though they always lose, simply for incentive. It is a lesser form of the good old bait and switch.

10) Put him in contact with your person at Shattered Crystal, as they are not in on the grand plot they gleefully confirm for him that the bounty is legit.

11) Bait the defecting Dredditor with terms and conditions. Ask for video, pics, and proof of a giant heist. Get his hopes up real high.

12) Get him to send you details about the heist, so that you can send information to Dreddits rivals so that they can be ready for the state of vulnerability Dreddit will be in, in the morning.

13) They don’t believe you, but you give them the details anyway with the hopes that someone will take it seriously. Tell them to watch Dreddit in the morning. (footnote: Next time they’ll learn to take anonymous intel more seriously)

14) Wait for the videos/pics to start rolling in of Dreddit being heisted from within. Demand video of at least one, one billion+ ISK ship being utterly destroyed.

15) Post video to dredditdownfall.com

16) Collect email correspondence with BoodaBooda.

17) Post it all on dredditdownfall.com

18) Demand a refund from Shattered Crystal as I am still within my rights to a refund within the first 30 days of purchase. They give you your refund.

19) Pay out (almost) nothing for all this drama, except to give Shattered Crystal a $100 tip for being good sports.

20) Relax, adjust your monacle, dump out your coffee and start sipping underpriced whiskey directly from the bottle like a true neckbeard. Laugh loud.

Appendix I: Cointelpro I did realize BoodaBooda would likely be doing cointelpro. We will see in the next few hours exactly if he is a cointelpro-PRO or not.

Conclusion: I was told that it would take thousands and thousands of IRL monies to even damage you guys at all. Instead, it took about 3 days of effort, some social engineering, and $100. The $100 was voluntary because the guy at Shattered Crystal is pretty fucking awesome (sorry man, it had to be this way, no hate at all <3 ).

The gloating was very hollow in the end.  You see, as I pointed out above, BoodaBooda isn’t an idiot.  He “gutted” Dreddit on the test server.  SISI.  Which will be devastating to Dred… okay, on the test server, everything can be bought for 100 isk, so worst case scenario, it will be mildly annoying for members of Dreddit who log into SISI between now and the next mirror of Tranquility.  The scammer was scammed.

WORSE!  Oh yes, it gets worse for him.  You see, Shattered Crystal was not too keen on getting a $1000 charge back.  The angry $1000 guy is now out $1000.  His scam failed.  Booda’s did not, as Shattered Crystal is sending him the plex.  So the current statement on dreddit downfall is extremely fitting: “I lose.” The full extent by which he lost is… possibly one of the greatest losses in Eve.  This would mean that Booda, on the flip side, has won Eve.  Congrats to him.

Hopefully Booda gets back to us soon with a statement.  Since this story is already pushing 16 hours old, I’m going to post it now and update with his quote if he does.

EDIT: Shattered Crystal got back to us. This is the statement they have made on this topic:

A customer approached us about purchasing some ETC and holding them for a prize later. We did that. We will not be keeping any of the prize. We are waiting to get a clear answer about where to send the codes. If we do not get a clear answer we will just refund the purchase.

EDIT2: Booda has apparently gotten in contact with Shattered Crystal. After some annoyance that things were unclear, he responded with:
